Dr. RAMAN SINGH TO LEAD DELEGATION TO JAPAN

    Dr. Raman Singh, Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, is leading a 4-member delegation to Japan – from 12th to 19th January, 2002 -- for studying the new technologies in the field of Energy Conversation, Environmental Protection etc., for their adoption for improving efficiency of the Indian cement industry. The other members of the delegation are: Shri S. Jagadeesan, Joint Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Shri S.J. Raina, Director General, National Council for Cement & Building Materials and Shri A.V. Srinivasan, Secretary General, Cement Manufacturers Association.

    The delegation will visit Kawasaki Heavy Industries Limited, Taiheiyo Cement Corporation and Japan Cement Association to discuss matters on Technology Transfer. The delegation will also visit Municipal Waste Processing Unit and Ichihara Eco-Cement Plant. During his visit, Dr. Raman Singh will call on Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade & Industry.

    The visit of the delegation is to benefit significantly the cement industry by helping it in importing superior technologies adopted by the cement industry of Japan in the production of cement. The Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry, Government of Japan under its Green Aid Plan is providing assistance to a cement plant in India for implementing a project for co-generation of power from Waste Heat for utilisation in the plant. Besides this, there are many other superior technologies, which are being used by Japanese cement industry in the matter of utilisation of Solid Municipal Waste for the production of eco-cement.
