CHINESE DELEGATION OF LAWYERS CALLS ON LAW MINISTER

    A nine-member Chinese Delegation of lawyers called on the Union Minister of Law, Justice and Company Affairs, Shri Arun Jaitley here today. They exchanged views on legal and judicial questions of common interest.

    The delegation, headed by Mr. Fu Yang, Vice President of the All China Lawyers’ Association, is currently here on the invitation of the Bar Association of India .

    Both the sides apprised each other of legal and judicial systems prevailing in their countries. They were of the view that there were a great deal of commonality between the judicial systems of the two nations. While exchanging pleasantries, both the sides, maintained that China and India represented the two great ancient civilizations of the world and their importance in the comity of nations with about 40 per cent of the total world population could not be undermined. They also exchanged information on the increasing cases in the corporate sector while maintaining that with the admission of China to the World Trade Organization a lot of corporate legal activities were to be generated in this part of the world.

    At present, China’s is the fastest growing economy in the world and that of India’s the second fastest growing economy. It is in this context that both the delegations desired close cooperation between the two nations in the field of law and justice.

    The meeting, held in a cordial atmosphere, lasted half an hour.
