KIOCL’S TAILING DISPOSAL PLAN

Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd. (KIOCL) plans to raise the height of the Lakya Dam to increase the capacity of tailing deposition. M/s CWC have conducted a study and suggested that for every one meter increase, six million cu.m of space would be created for deposition of tailings. M/s MTD, Australia have indicted the possibility of utilising the existing dam by creating a bund inside using classified course tailings. For the purpose, hydro-dynamic modeling, geo-technical and engineering study are being conducted.

The Lakya Dam was constructed at initial stage of the project for deposition of tailing generated in the beneficiation process and to catre to the process water requirement of the plant. The present dam, which has been raised to a height of 100 meters is expected to serve the requirement for 5-7 years.
