ASSAM ASSURES THE CENTRE OF IMPROVING LAW AND ORDER AT REC

    The Assam Chief Minister Shri Tarun Gogoi met Minister for Human Resource Development Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi here today and assured that all steps will be taken to improve the law and order situation at the Regional Engineering College (REC) at Silchar. Dr. Joshi told him that efforts must be made to see that a conducive environment prevail in the campus. He said the REC Silchar should strive to be a model for engineering studies in the entire north-east and become a nodal centre.

    The State government still owes Rs. 7 crore to the REC. This have forced the REC to utilise plan expenditure for non-plan purposes

    Dr. Joshi, on being informed about the difficulties being faced by the Assam tea industry, suggested that biotechnology can be used for enhancing tea production. Besides, it is necessary for the tea industry to increase its expenditure in research, then only will they be able to compete with the rest of the world, the minister added.
