RUDY URGES EXPORTERS TO TAP NEW MARKETS

RUDY GIVES AWAY EEPC EXPORT AWARDS

ENGINEERING EXPORTS REGISTERED GROWTH OF 33%

    Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, has urged the engineering exporters to continuously review the performance and tap new emerging markets like Latin America, Central Asian Republics to ensure healthy growth. While giving away the All India Export Awards of the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC), here today, Shri Rudy asked the exporting community to work hard to achieve to increase India’s share to 1% in the world trade by the year 2005. Shri S.S.Kapoor, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Shri J.S.Bhasin, Chairman, EEPC were present in the award function.

    Shri Rudy mentioned the recent launching of INDIATECH EXPOSITIONS in important markets by EEPC and said that this activity could prove to be an effective instrument for growth of engineering exports. Shri Rudy appreciated the significant growth of engineering exports of over 33% during the year 2000-01 and said that engineering goods and services will have to play bigger role and higher responsibilities in the future. Shri Rudy termed the EEPC proposal of setting up a series of INDIAMARTS in strategic location in prominent target markets a significant decision that would serve as key purchase centres by overseas buyers and act as a vehicle for promoting export of Indian engineering products.

    The Minister said the government would welcome the suggestions of exporting community to be incorporated in the new EXIM policy, which would be announced in this April. Shri Rudy presented total of 83 export excellence awards in various categories including All India Trophies for Top and highest exports to 8 companies including TISCO, NALCO and BHEL.
