FUNDS RELEASED TO BIHAR AND UTTAR PRADESH FOR TOTAL SANITATION CAMPAIGN

    The Ministry of Rural Development has released an amount of Rs. 1190.62 lakh towards the first instament for three districts of Bihar during the year 2001-2002 under the Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) for "Prakalp" of the Restructured Central Rural Sanitation Programme. This amount represents 30% share of Government of India. These three districts are:- Gaya – Rs.417.24 lakh; Saran (Chapra) – Rs.392.91 lakh and Muzaffarpur – Rs.380.47 lakh.

    The Ministry has also released Rs.126.18 lakh towards first instalment for Uttar Pradesh under the TSC of the Restructured Central Rural Sanitation Programme.

    The Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) approach emphasizes on the awareness building component and meets the demand through delivery mechanism. School sanitation has been introduced as a major component and as an entry point encouraging wider acceptance of sanitation among rural masses. Under TSC, 200 districts have been allotted to States/Union Territories all over the country.
