LAW MINISTER ADDRESSED INDIAN LEGAL SERVICE OFFICIALS

The Union Minister of Law, Justice and Company Affairs, Shri Arun Jaitley has said that it would be wrong to assume that challenges of 2001 would decrease in the new year 2002. Addressing a new year get-together of one hundred plus strong Indian Legal Service officials, who man Department of Legal Affairs and Legislative Department in his Ministry, Shri Jaitley called upon the officials to give in their best in the new year.

The Law Minister said that the two Departments have, by and large, maintained reasonably good efficiency.

Talking of the importance of the Law Ministry in regulating the Government business, the Law Minister said that his Ministry has been providing a shield for action or inaction to Ministries and Departments in the Government. He said that the two Departments had to do a lot of constructive works to rise to the occasion. National and international events have had bearings on the functioning of the Law Ministry as laws had to be formulated, adjusted and moulded to suit the requirements. In the legislative arena, the Minister said that it was ever challenging as the officials manning the Legislative Department had to see a large model of legislations that were taking place inter-nationally and readjust their drafting skill accordingly.

The Law Minister lauded the Legislative Department for its reasonably creditable job in drafting important and challenging economic laws in the year goneby.
