EXPORTS UP BY 18% IN JANUARY 2002

INDIA’S FOREIGN TRADE: APRIL-JANUARY, 2001-2002

    India’s exports during January 2002 are valued at US $ 4252.57million which is 18.18% higher than the level of US $ 3598.39 million in January 2001. In rupee terms the exports were Rs.20552.11 crore, which is 22.71% higher than the value of exports during January, 2001.

    Exports during April-January, 2001-2002 are valued at US $ 36526.14 million which is 1.56% higher than the level of US $ 35963.84 million during April- January, 2000-2001. In rupee terms, the exports were Rs.173562.98 crore, which is 5.98% higher than the value of exports during April- January, 2000-2001.

    India’s imports during April- January, 2001-2002 are valued at US $ 42538.70 million representing a growth of 1.84% over the level of imports valued at US $ 41769.21 million in April- January, 2000-2001.

    Oil imports during April- January, 2001-2002 are valued at US $ 11789.66 million which is 13.75% lower than oil imports valued at US $ 13668.87 million in the corresponding period last year. Non-oil imports during April- January, 2001-2002 are estimated at US $ 30749.04 million which is 9.43% higher than the level of such imports valued at US $ 28100.34 million in April- January, 2000-2001.

    Imports during January 2002 are valued at US $ 4367.78 million which is 10.45% higher than the level of US $ 3954.69 million in January, 2001. In Rupee terms the imports increased by 14.68%.

    The trade deficit for April- January, 2001-2002 is estimated at US $ 6012.56 million which is higher than the deficit at US $ 5805.37 million during April- January, 2000-2001.

    Tables giving details of exports, imports and trade balance, according to the provisional estimates of Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence & Statistics (DGCI&S), are attached.
