RS. 1645.20 LAKH RELEASED FOR RURAL DRINKING WATER AND WASTELANDS DEVELOPMENT IN ORISSA

    The Ministry of Rural Development has released Rs. 1341.19 lakh to Orissa as second instalment of funds for the year 2001-02, for execution/completion of schemes to provide safe drinking water facilities to rural habitations and schools under the centrally sponsored Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP). In addition, Rs. 7.53 lakh has been released for the Monitoring and Investigation Units of the Programme.

    With this instalment, Rs. 4472.97 lakh stands released to the State, against the provisional allocation of Rs. 6522 lakh under the scheme. The second instalment has been made after deducting Rs. 1919.81 lakh for excessive Opening Balance amount and shortfall in provision of the Minimum Needs Programme.

    The Ministry has also released a total of Rs. 296.48 lakh as first instalment to six districts of Orissa under the Integrated Wastelands Development Project (IWDP). The districts are, Koraput – Rs. 2.54 lakh, Cuttack – Rs. 62.60 lakh, Sambalpur – Rs. 65.04 lakh, Ganjam – Rs. 63.89 lakh, Gajapathi – Rs. 57.28 lakh, Balasore – Rs. 45.13 lakh.
