MODERNISATION OF GSI
During the quarterly performance review meeting, Acting DG, GSI informed that Dr. C. Chakraborty, DDG (Lab) has been nominated as the nodal officer to speed up the modernisation. A total amount of Rs. 27.83 crore was earmarked for modernisation of GSI and by now equipments worth Rs. 14.80 crore have been procured during the period April 2000 to 2002. This includes equipment worth Rs. 9.418 crore procured during the current financial year. Equipments worth Rs. 408.2 lakh are under various stages of procurement and orders for other equipment worth Rs. 166 lakh have placed.It has also been proposed during the meeting that restructuring and creation of specific laboratory facility will be done at operational, regional and headquarter level in the light of the workload.
