11th MEETING OF CAUVERY MONITORING COMMITTEE HELD

CWC WOULD REWORK OUT THE DISTRESS SHARING FORMULA ON CAUVERY WATER

    The 11th meeting of the Cauvery Monitoring Committee under the Chairmanship of the Secretary, Union Ministry of Water Resources was held here on Tuesday, the 12th February, 2002. The Committee reviewed the inflow and storage position in the 4 (four) Karnataka reservoirs and at Mettur. As regards distress sharing formula, the State Governments of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka presented their views. It was decided that the Central Water Commission (CWC) would rework out the distress sharing formula keeping in view the comments of the State Governments and circulate this among the Party States. The States would furnish their comments for discussion in the next meeting.

    Other issues like setting up gauge stations in Karnataka under the Hydrology Project, monitoring of area irrigated in Karnataka with Cauvery Water were also discussed. The Chief Secretary, the Principal Secretary (Inter-State) and Secretary (Irrigation) from Karnataka, Secretary (PWD) from Tamil Nadu and representatives from the Government of Pondicherry and Kerala attended the said meeting.
