VSP SALES UP 20 PER CENT

        Visakhapatanam Steel Plant (VSP), a public sector unit of the Steel Ministry, during April-January, 2001, has achieved a sales turnover of Rs. 3121 crore, a growth of 20 percent compared to Rs2598 crore sales turnover during the corresponding period of last fiscal. During the period, domestic sales increased by 19 per cent and exports were up by 32 per cent. The sales turnover of Rs344 crore in January, 2002 is the best January performance since inception. It has recorded a growth of 21 per cent over Rs285 crore, the sales of January,2001.

        The plant produced 2.85 million tonnes (MT) of hot metal, 2.51MT of liquid steel and 2.24MT of saleable steel during these 10 months registering growth of 11%, 6%, and 11% respectively over the same period last year. During January 2002, the plant produced1,74,062 tonnes of billets and 67,501 tonnes of bars, record performance for any January since inception. Besides it achieved the best January performance in the production of Sinter, Hot Metal, Liquid Steel, Cast Blooms, Wire Rods, MMSM products and Saleable Steel.
