SECRET BALLOT FOR ASSESSING REPRESENTATIVE CHARACTER OF TRADE UNIONS IN FCI

    Elections for assessing the representative character of trade unions in the Food Corporation of India (FCI) will be held on 2nd, 5th and 8th April, 2002. The Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) in a notification has called for nominations from registered trade unions having membership amongst category III and IV staff in the FCI. The nominations can be filed on all working days upto 28th February, 2002. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on 5th March, 2002 and nominations can be withdrawn on the same day. Election symbols would be allotted on the following day. The election process would be completed on April 12, 2002 with the declaration of results.

    The High Court of Delhi had directed on 4th December, 2001 that secret ballot should be held for assessing the representative character of trade unions operating in the FCI. All Trade Unions operating in the Food Corporation of India having a valid registration under the Trade Unions Act, 1995 for one year as on 25.2.2002 and continue to hold valid registration on the date of filing nomination would be eligible to participate in the elections. All category III & IV employees governed by FCI (Staff) Regulations, 1971 and borne on the rolls of the FCI as on 1.2.2002 would be eligible to cast their votes.
