The Minister of Information
and Broadcasting, Smt. Sushma Swaraj inaugurated the Single Room
Maternity Care Service at the Sitaram Bhartia Institute of Science
and Research, here today. At a seminar on ‘Mother and Child Programme’
organised on the occasion, Smt. Swaraj regretted that the incidence
of cesarean births was on the increase in the urban areas. She
said, this was mainly because of misinformation by some vested
interests. The meeting was informed that cesarean births in urban
areas account for 35 to 56 per cent of cases whereas it should
be around 15 per cent.
