PRELIMINARY REPORT ON TRAIN COLLISION BETWEEN JANSEVA EXPRESS AND GWALIOR MAIL NEAR CHHAPRA


Shri Bhupender Singh, Commissioner of Railway Safety, North Eastern Circle (Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India ) held a Statutory inquiry on 9th and 10th November this year into the rear end collision of 5210 Dn Amritsar-Barauni Janseva Express train by 5224 Dn Gwalior-Barauni Mail train between Kopasamhota and Teknewas Railway Stations on Gorakhpur-Chhapra Section of Varanasi Division of North Eastern Railway on 5.11.2002 at about 8.15 hrs.

As a result of this accident one passenger died, five passengers grievously injured and five passengers suffered simple injuries.

According to the provisional findings of the Commissioner of Railway Safety, appended with his preliminary report the accident occurred due to "Failure of Railway Staff".
