The National Mineral
Development Corporation (NMDC), a public sector undertaking of
the Ministry of Steel has earned a net profit of Rs. 239.5 crore
during April-November 2002 against a target of Rs. 231 crore.
It earned a profit of Rs. 192.6 crore during the corresponding
period last year. Its cash profit during the period has gone up
to Rs. 266.8 crore from Rs. 219.3 crore during the same period
of the previous year. The company sold nearly 116 lakh tonnes
of iron ore against a target of 122 lakh tonnes during these eight
months. During the period it has sold 34983 carrots of diamond
against 38300 carrots during the same period last year.
NMDC produced
99.56 lakh tonnes of iron ore and 48554 carrots of diamond during
April-November 2002, achieving 97 and 89 per cent of the target
respectively. During the month of November the company produced
13.62 lakh tonnes of iron ore and 6657 carrots of diamond, 92
and 91 per cent of the targets respectively.
