The Government has
proposed to set up electronic library network in villages to provide
reading resources without much expenditure on books. The proposed
network will require Computer and Internet connection and small
infrastructure to provide vast resource material from network
of libraries around the country on demand. This was informed by
Minister of Tourism and Culture, Shri Jagmohan while laying the
foundation stone of DELNET, library complex at JNU here today.
He said Government is planning several measures to boost library
movement in the country. More funds were being allotted to libraries.
States are being requested to plan at least one library in each
Panchayat block, Centre would provide all possible supports in
this endeavour, he added. Shri Jagmohan informed the Members of
Parliament have also been requested to allocate at least 25 lakh
rupees from their constituency fund to set up library in their
area and response was encouraging.
Later, releasing
a pocket mini booklet on Delhi Tourism at Ashoka Hotel, Shri Jagmohan
said that a drive has been launched by the Ministry of Tourism
and Culture to clean all Delhi monuments and to make the ambience
beautiful. He said, "we have to present a picture of good
civic governance, rich heritage and ancient civilisation before
tourists. In turn the tourists can play the role of ambassadors
of Indian Tourism. Quality of product is much more important than
publicity, hence efforts should be made to improve the infrastructure
and upkeep of our tourism products".
