DEVELOPMENT OF ENGINES FOR LCA

LOK SABHA

The indigenously developed Kaveri engine for Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) has accumulated more than 1200 hours of ground testing. The core engine Kabini has been successfully tested at CIAM, Russia and the full engine is likely to be dispatched to Russia for altitude testing during January next year. It is planned to carry out test flight of Kaveri engine with LCA by June 2005. The design of Kaveri engine is totally indigenous. Major thrust has been given for indigenous development of materials, sub-systems and general spares. Kaveri engine is planned to have 75 per cent indigenous content during initial series production and efforts would be made for raising it progressively.

This information was given by the Defence Minister Shri George Fernandes in a written reply to Shri Tufani Saroj in Lok Sabha today.
