MILITANT'S HIDE OUTS IN BANGLADESH

RAJYA SABHA

Government is aware that militant groups like the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) and National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN/IM) operating in the North-East have established their base camps and several hide-outs in Bangladesh. The State Government of Tripura has given to the Centre a list comprising the names and details of militant organizations who had set up base camps in Bangladesh territory.

The matter has been taken up with the Government of Bangladesh who have assured that they will not allow militants to use their territory for carrying on activities prejudicial to the interests of India. The Government of Bangladesh has assured full cooperation in the matter of deportation of Indian militants arrested by them.

Giving this information in written replies today, the Minister of State for Home, Shri I.D. Swami said the barbed wire fencing along the boundary between Tripura and Bangladesh is planned to be completed in a phased manner by 2007. He said presently, there are no plans to induct additional Army troops for counter insurgency operations in Tripura, as the existing Army/Assam Rifles force levels involved in combating insurgency in the State is considered adequate. The situation is constantly being monitored and requisite steps, including increment of force levels, will be considered, should the circumstances necessitate, he added.
