INMARSAT SATELLITE TERMINALS WORKING AS VPTs IN REMOTE AREAS

As many as 327 INMARSAT Mini-M Satellite Terminals are working as Village Public Telephones (VPTs) on INMARSAT satellite. These are being deployed in the most remote and isolated areas of the country in Jammu and Kashmir, North East and Andaman and Nicobar Islands etc. where no other terrestrial technology is feasible.

The above information was given by the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Smt. Sumitra Mahajan in a written reply to a question raised by Shri P.R. Khunte in the Lok Sabha today.
