The Second phase
of Yamuna Action Plan (YAP) for control of pollution has been
fixed at Rs. 637 crore. This was stated by the Minister of Environment
and Forests, Shri T. R. Baalu in a written reply to a question
raised by Shri P. Prahbakar Reddy in the Rajya Sabha today. The
project size has been finalized on the basis of prioritization
of projects under consideration of the Japan Bank for International
Cooperation (JBIC) and availability of funds with the donor agency.
JBIC and the Ministry of Environment and Forests have signed the
Minutes of Discussions including the cost and the details of scope
of works to be taken up in Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. JBIC
deputed a Mission for appraisal of YAP Phase – II in October 2002
to finalize the scope of work and cost estimates for the project.
Shri Baalu further
informed that the Delhi component of works under YAP- II would
cost Rs. 379.60 crore while the Uttar Pradesh segment would cost
Rs. 144.70 crore and the Haryana component was estimated at Rs.
62.50 crore. Rs. 50.20 crore would be spent on the capacity building
of National River Conservation Directorate and Project Implementing
Agencies. Official commitment of Japan for loan assistance is
yet to be received.
