NORTHERN COMMAND HOSPITAL BAGS RAKSHA MANTRI'S TROPHY FOR BEST COMMAND HOSPITAL


The Defence Minister Shri George Fernandes gave away the Raksha Mantri’s Running Trophy for the Best Command Hospital to Command Hospital, Northern Command here today. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Fernandes lauded the selfless service rendered by service hospitals in the fields of advanced medical treatment and effective patient care. The minister further added that the functioning of these hospitals during disaster management such as the super cyclone in Orissa and the earthquake in Gujarat is a testimony to their efficiency.

Earlier addressing the function, the Director General Armed Forces Medical Services, Lt Gen Shahi stated that medical units are being trained in disaster management to contain nuclear, biological and chemical warfare threats. He further said that recently a seventy-five bedded hospital was set up just below the Siachen Glacier (MAC HUNDER) which houses state-of-the-art decompression chamber, central heating, a large operation theatre and an advanced medical ward catering to the needs of the troops as well as locals. The hospital was constructed in a record five months he added.

The Running Raksha Mantri’s Trophy for Best Command Hospital comes alongwith a cash award of two lakh. This trophy was instituted in 1989 by Shri KC Pant the then Defence Minister and awarded to the best hospital amongst Command Hospitals of Army and equivalent status hospitals of Navy and Air Force. The award is given in recognition of the efforts made by the respective hospitals in the field of better effective patient care, innovation if any and also to motivate them to further improve the functioning and to inspire the staff to face any challenge.
