DEVELOPMENT OF RANGE OF RAVINES
LOK SABHA
According to the
information contained in the "Wastelands Atlas of India,
2000" brought out by the Department of Land Resources, Ministry
of Rural Development in collaboration with National Remote Sensing
Agency Hyderabad, the area of gullied and ravined land in the
country is 2.06 million hectares. The States most affected by
this problem are Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra
and Gujarat. No specific Scheme/programme has been formulated
by the Department of Land Resources for reclamation of ravine
affected areas.
Under the Member
of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), development
works are taken up in the Lok Sabha constituencies on the recommendation
of the MPs concerned. There is no special package for development
of ravines under the MPLAD Scheme.
