B.N. NAVALAWALA TAKES OVER AS MEMBER, UPSC


Shri B.N. Navalawala former Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India today took the oath of office and secrecy as Member, Union Public Service Commission. The oath was administered by the Chairman, UPSC, Shri P.C. Hota. Shri B.N. Navalawala who is an engineering graduate has been Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India from 1st April 2001 to 2nd August, 2002. He was working as Adviser in the Ministry of Water Resources presently.

Recently, the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage during its 18th Congress, held at Montreal (Canada) from 21st-28th July, 2002, honoured Shri Navalawala with an "Award of Excellence" in recognition of his "exceptional" contribution to the ICID and World Food Security. He is the first water resources official in the country to have achieved this "honour". Also, Shri Navalawala is the first Asian to have been elected as the Chairman of the International Committee (of ICID) for Future Research and Development for Water Resources Sector since September, 2001.
