He was speaking at the 10th Asian Congress of Architects in the capital. Shri. Ananth Kumar advised the architects and students from 16 countries to think globally so that they are well aware of the latest architectural designs, building materials across the world and act locally by translating their knowledge for application in their own country. "Architecture should be as per Desha, Kaala, Dharma Anusar", Shri Kumar said meaning that designs are adaptable to the place, are as per the current trend and are user/community/environmental friendly.

Referring to the demand for starting a scheme of Chartered Architects, the Minister said that he is in favour of trying it one pilot basis but expressed concern that it may not be applicable in cities where planned development and unplanned development move parallel to each other. He gave the example of city of Delhi wherein out of 34 lakh constructions, 11.5 lakh are illegal and unauthorized.
