10TH
ASIAN CONGRESS OF ARCHITECTS BEGINS IN THE CAPITAL
Union Minister for
Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation, Shri. Ananth Kumar
today said that the architects should make a meaningful mix of
their imagination/vision with that ground realities so that the
designs/models they develop are viable, sustainable, replicable
and implementable. He was speaking at the 10th Asian
Congress of Architects in the capital. Shri. Ananth Kumar advised
the architects and students from 16 countries to think globally
so that they are well aware of the latest architectural designs,
building materials across the world and act locally by translating
their knowledge for application in their own country. "Architecture
should be as per Desha, Kaala, Dharma Anusar", Shri Kumar said
meaning that designs are adaptable to the place, are as per the
current trend and are user/community/environmental friendly.
Shri Ananth Kumar
also identified 4 challenges for the architects, namely, challenge
of excellence, challenge of creating viable models, challenge
of developing models as per socio-economic requirements and the
challenge of developing models that fit into the local environment.
He also advised the architects of his own department to be realistic
and humble so that the lay-out plans submitted by them match with
the actual grounds realities. Referring to the demand for starting
a scheme of Chartered Architects, the Minister said that
he is in favour of trying it one pilot basis but expressed concern
that it may not be applicable in cities where planned development
and unplanned development move parallel to each other. He gave
the example of city of Delhi wherein out of 34 lakh constructions,
11.5 lakh are illegal and unauthorized.
It may be noted that
