OUTSTANDING ARREARS WORTH OVER RS.593 CRORE RECOVERED BY EMPLOYEES PROVIDENT FUND ORGANISATION


The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has recovered Rs.593.30 crore through recovery action out of the outstanding arrear demand Rs.1546.34 crore in the un-exempted sector during 2001-2002. The recovery is Rs.178.95 crore more than the previous year. This was revealed during the 159th Meeting of the Central Board of Trustees (EPF) here today. About 72% of the outstanding arrears, i.e., Rs.683.75 crore is concentrated in nine regions namely Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. 29,856 defaulting establishments belong to the private sector accounting for Rs.626.09 crore while 1408 such establishments in the public sector account for Rs.326.95 crore arrears.

The Meeting was told that the out of the total arrears of Rs.953.04 crore, an amount of Rs.678.82 crore could not be recovered over the years due to stay by courts, factories having gone into liquiditation, factories declared sick by the BIFR, etc.
