PRESENTATION OF "KAVITA MEIN KRISHAN"

The Song and Drama Division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting presented a dance-drama programme "Kavita Mein Krishan" on the occasion of Lord Krishna’s birthday (Janamashtami) at the Siri Fort Auditorium, here today. Vice- President, Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat inaugurated the programme and the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Smt. Sushma Swaraj and Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Shri Ramesh Bais were present.

Inaugurating the programme, the Vice-President Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat said that cultural development of society is very crucial for country’s development. A country cannot progress if its cultural heritage is not preserved and taken to the coming generation. He said we must make efforts to ensure to keep our heritage alive right down to the village level. Shri Shekhawat said that people of different faiths realise the divine power in their own manner but the goal of all religions is the same. The people in rural areas, especially in Rajasthan, relate all the events in their lives to the life and teachings of Lord Krishna, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Smt. Sushma Swaraj said that different types of programmes are organised on the life of Lord Krishna on this occasion. But this is a different type of programme which brings out the perception of Krishna’s teachings through the minds of great poets.

"Kavita Mein Krishan" is an attempt to showcase the legend and different nuances of Lord Krishna through the medium of dance-drama. Krishna has been a motivating force behind many epics, dance-dramas, novels, etc., written over thousands of years. There is hardly any medium of art and literature where Krishna has not been portrayed as a symbol of universal love, fraternity, peace and righteousness. His legends, stories and escapades find mention in every discipline of art and literature. That is why it is very difficult to put forward a presentation, which seems original.

Hence, "Kavita Mein Krishan" seeks to discover the preacher of Geeta through the creations of poets of Bhakti movement – right from Jaidev, Vidyapati, Bihari, Ghananand, Raskhan, Surdas, Nand Das, Meera to Bhartendu Harischandra and Jagan Nath Das Ratnakar. The dance-drama "Kavita Mein Krishan" has been scripted by Bal Swarup Rahi and choreographed by Smt. Shovana Narayanan. Well known theatre personalities Dolly Ahluwalia and Robin Das have added their inputs in the production.

In his welcome speech, the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Shri Ramesh Bais praised the efforts of the Song and Drama Division in presenting the creations of great poets from the Bhakti Movement till the modern times in an artistic dance-drama form. Such efforts help us in preserving our rich cultural heritage for our future generations, he said.
