PRESIDENT MEETS GROUP OF STUDENTS FROM TIRUPATTUR IN TAMIL NADU


The President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam met a group of students from Tirupattur here today. The students studying various courses in the science and information technology branches were very enthusiastic about their meeting with the President.

In their interaction with Dr. Kalam, a number of issues relating to national development were discussed. The President told the students that the nation needed to concentrate on five most fundamental needs if it is to attain the status of developed nation. These are: education and health care, agriculture and food processing, communications and Information Technology, infrastructure like roads, power and drinking water and finally critical technologies.

Dr. Kalam asked the students to work hard as that was the foundation for any progress. Speaking about faster economic progress, the President said there is a need for a national vision, which should take the form of a movement. Discussing the Information Technology courses which the students are currently enrolled in, Dr. Kalm said IT needs to be applied to various fields to make it effective and useful to the people. He gave the examples of tele-medicine, tele-education, e-commerce.

Finally speaking to the teachers accompanying the students, the President said that the nation needed teachers as true Gurus. They along with proper upbringing from the mother and father would create enlightened citizens.
