KOREAN DELEGATION CALLS ON MAJ. GEN. KHANDURI


The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Road Transport and Highways, Maj. Gen. (Retd.) B. C. Khanduri today met a Korean delegation led by Dr. Kiho Lee, the visiting Senior Advisor to the President, Republic of Korea.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister took note of the hard work put in by the people of Republic of Korea to put their country on the fast track to development and prosperity.

The Minister apprised the visiting dignitary of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP), the biggest ever road-building programme undertaken by the country. Gen. Khanduri said that the NHDP is the dream project of the Prime Minister of India, Sh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee. "It is the biggest ever infrastructure project undertaken in the country. I am happy to inform you that the project is progressing very well and is in fact, going to be completed ahead of schedule", the Minister said. The Minister elaborated upon the successful pro-active initiatives being undertaken to avoid time and cost overrun for such a big Project. The Minister appreciated the professional and technical contribution of Korean companies in executing projects under NHDP.

The NHDP is a major initiative towards qualitative and quantitative enhancement of the National Highways, involving development and 4/6 laning of about 13,146 km of road at a cost of over Rs. 54,000 crore. Many Korean companies have formed Joint Ventures with Indian companies for executing road development works under the NHDP.
