SHRI PRAMOD MAHAJAN TO INAUGURATE STPI AT NASIK
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs,
Communications & IT Shri Pramod Mahajan will inaugurate the
Software Technology Park at Nasik on Monday, 26th August,
2002. The objective of establishing the Park at Nasik is to promote
IT enabled services at secondary cities and locations in the country.
In the field of software export sector, Nasik has made a total
contribution of about Rs.164 lakh for the last 5 years. During
the year 2001-02 Nasik contributed nearly Rs.45 lakhs. About 14
software units have been registered under STPI, out of which 5
units have commenced operations and are export units.
STPI has
set up new centres at Vashi in Navi Mumbai, Nagpur and Aurangabad
which are already functional. Dedicated International Gateways
have been set up for providing data communication facilities at
Pune, Navi Mumbai, Nagpur and Aurangabad. These centres have attracted
many software units to the State of Maharashtra.
There are around 1500 STP units in Maharashtra and total export
from the State of Maharashtra is about Rs.4603 crore for the year
2001-02. One more similar center is being set up at Nasik
to promote software industry at these locations.
Pune had the privilege of having
the first center of Software Technology Parks more than a decade
ago. STPI-Pune has come a long way and made substantial growth.
The number of units has grown from 2 in 1990-91 to 584 in 2001-02.
The exports made from STP units in Pune has grown manifold from
less than Rs.1 crore in 1990-91 to more than Rs.2000 crores in
the financial year 2001-02.
The Software Technology Parks of
India (STPI) have registered a growth rate of 47% higher than
the previous year (Rs.29,523 crore during 2001-02 as against Rs.20,051
crore in 2000-01). The total National Software Exports, as reported
by NASSCOM during the financial year 2001-02 is Rs.36,500 crore,
which makes STPI’s total contribution towards national export
to more than 80%.
The State-wise export figures of
STPI centers also present encouraging trend. Among the main centers
Karnataka(Rs.9904 crores), Tamil Nadu(Rs.5014 crores), Maharashtra
(Rs.4603 crores), Andhra Pradesh (Rs.2805 crores) and Haryana(Rs.2140
crores) are the top five States, which have recorded an excellent
growth rates. Closely on the heels are Uttar Pradesh(Rs.2000 crores)
and Delhi(Rs.1750 crores).
