WINNERS OF ARJUNA AND DRONACHARYA AWARDS ANNOUNCED


The Government today announced the winners of Arjuna and Dronacharya Awards for the year 2001.

ARJUNA AWARDS 2001

Based on the recommendations of the Selection Committee, headed by Shri Prakash Padukone, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has decided to confer the Arjuna Awards for 2001 to the following sportspersons:

DRONACHARYA AWARD FOR 2001

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports accepted the recommendations of the Selection Committee for Dronacharya Awards chaired by Shri Ajit Pal Singh and decided to confer the Awards to the following coaches:

The Awards will be presented by the Hon’ble President of India at a function on 29th August, 2002.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has made major amendments to the scheme of Arjuna Awards for outstanding performance in sports and games. Major changes have been incorporated in the procedure of selection with Chairperson of the Selection Committee being a sportsperson of eminence. The Selection Committee had five Olympians, four Arjuna Arjuna Awardees and two Sports Administrators as its members.
