RSP's INDIGENOUS INNOVATIONS IN VALUE ENGINEERING

The Roll Shop Department of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) of the Steel Authority of India Ltd. has devised a method of removing the stuck up bearings from the SSM work roll stock. By this new method, consumption of bearings would come down significantly which will yield a recurring savings of Rs.15 lakh a year. The innovative project earned for the Roll shop the coveted value engineering Trophy for the year 2001-02.

RSP has been a pioneer in the field of value Engineering. By tapping the innovative zeal and creative talent of its employees the Steel plant has saved Rs.21.24 crore since the inception of the scheme in 1985. Apart from the tangible benefits, the implementation of the value Engineering projects has also resulted in several other benefits in the field of improving productivity and yield, energy conservation and process simplification.

The Steel Plant won the prestigious 'Handa Golden Key' for excellence in 1990 and 1995. The award instituted by Indian Value Engineering Society is presented to the Unit which is rated the best among Public Sector and Private Sector companies practicing Value Engineering.
