SALEM STAINLESS STEEL AT PARLIAMENT LIBRARY

Cold rolled stainless steel supplied by the Salem Steel Plant (SSP)of the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) has played a key role in the structure of the new Parliament library. SSP has been associated with the project since 1991 and has supplied steel items mostly in 304 grade to the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).

Starting from anchor clamps for holding the large stones, false ceiling panels for decorative application, to load bearing cum aesthetic application in the VIP and focal dome structures, stainless steel of various grade, finish and thickness has been used in the building. This has been used for anchor clamps, handrails, false ceiling panels, elevator car paneling and pipes for structures of the domes.

More than 37,000 stainless steel flats of thickness 4-6 mm in the width of 25 mm and 50 mm in 304 grade hold the stones to the walls as well as the large pillars of the structure. The clamps were precision cut to strips by Salem Steel Plant in cold rolled 304 grade/2B finish material. The material's corrosion resistance and better strength are the criteria for its usage. More than 500 meters of stainless steel tubes in 304 grade have been used as hand rails for the staircases. Properties like cleanliness, hygiene and maintenance free life are considered the plus points of stainless steel for being chosen for this application.
