RIVER CRUISE AT VARANASI

Tourists to Varanasi will soon be able to get a glimpse of various ghats in and around Varanasi especially in the evenings. A state of art cruise vessel from Holland is proposed to be procured for the cruise. UP state Tourism Development Corporation is going to facilitate the operations by ensuring effective marketing and liaisoning with local authorities. The most important part of the project i.e. providing infrastructure and maintaining the navigable depth will be done by Inland Waterways Authority of India, Ministry of Shipping.

An MoU to this effect has been signed between UP government and M/s Vomsi India Ltd. IWA will provide infrastructure facilities like floating pontoons for berthing of cruise vessel and facility for embarkation and disembarkation of passengers.

The project will be implemented in phases. In the first phase, the cruise will be introduced between Ramnagar, Assighat and Rajghat in Varanasi and will be extended to Chunar in the subsequent phases. Both the parties will prepare a Detailed Project Report within three months time. A high level Project Implementation Committee has been constituted for supervision, coordination and implementation of the project. To begin with, one bajra is going to be pressed into service. In the mean time the regular cruise vessel will be procure from Holland and deployed.
