STEPS TO PROMOTE EXPORT OF STEEL
LOK SABHA
The export of finished steel
in 2001-2002 was 2.73million tonnes while the same for the year
2000-2001 was 2.66 million tonnes. The Ministry of Steel has taken
several steps to improve the export of steel from India.
A Steel Exporters’ forum has been
set up to remove bottlenecks in the steel exports. Other steps
are: exploring consolidating new/non-traditional markets; maximizing
exports to neighboring countries; attempting to increase range
of export products and contesting trade cases for re-opening major
traditional markets for India steel exports. Besides the Ministry
has asked its PSUs to explore new markets for export.
This information was given by the
Ministry of Steel Shri B.K. Tripathy in a written reply in the
Lok Sabha today.
