ILO IMPLEMENTING INTEGRATED AREA SPECIFIC PROJECTS IN FIVE DISRICTS
IN THE COUNTRY TO ELIMINATE CHILD LABOUR
The International Labour Organisation
is implementing Integrated Area Specific Projects in five districts
in the country through the governments’ National Child Labour
Project Societies to eliminate child labour. These districts are
Mirzapur and Ferozabad in Uttar Pradesh, Jaipur in Rajasthan and
Virudhunagar and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. The ILO is also implementing
a State Based Project in Andhra Pradesh. Giving this
information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, the Minister
of State for Labour, Shri Ashok Pradhan said that the objective
of the ILO programme is to contribute to the elimination of child
labour in the selected areas. He said that these projects aim
at elimination of child labour in hazardous occupations by preventing
and withdrawing as well as through training of the key functionaries,
raising awareness, development and implementation of replicable
pilot interventions etc. Shri Pradhan said that an
amount of US $ 439, 327 has been earmarked for the programme in
four districts of Ferozabad and US $ 417, 448 each for Mirzapur,
Jaipur, Virudhunagar and Coimbatore. In addition US $ 4,551, 804
have been earmarked for the State-based project in Andhra Pradesh.
The Minister said that major government initiative to eliminate
child labour is the scheme of National Child Labour Projects (NCLPs)
currently under implementation in 100 districts in the country.
