RS. 30.65 CRORE RELEASED FOR RURAL DRINKING WATER TO UTTAR PRADESH AND UTTARANCHAL


The Ministry of Rural Development has released Rs. 3065 lakh for rural drinking water to Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal under centrally sponsored Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) of Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission (RGNDWM) for the year 2002-03. Out of this, Rs. 2530.30 lakh is for Uttar Pradesh and Rs. 534.70 lakh for Uttaranchal. The funds will be utilized for execution/completion of schemes to provide safe drinking water facilities to rural habitations and schools. Priority is to be accorded to cover Partially Covered and water quality affected habitations of these States. The States should meet targets out of the funds released under ARWSP along with their matching grants.

Uttar Pradesh has to cover 3811 schools, as per the targets for the year 2002-03. With the present release, the State has received Rs. 6511 lakh against provisional allocation of Rs. 13022 lakh, as first installment for the year. Uttaranchal has a target of covering 34 Not Covered, 500 Partially Covered habitations and 229 schools. With this, Rs. 1541.50 lakh stands released to the State as first installment under ARWSP, during 2002-03.

The Ministry has also released Rs. 3,27,37,500 under Drought Prone Areas Programme (DPAP) to Uttaranchal for planning and development of 97 watershed projects in the districts: Almora/Bageshwar (Rs.81 lakh ;24 Projects), Chamoli (Rs.54 lakh; 16 Projects), Pauri Garhwal(Rs.91.125 lakh ; 30 Projects), Pithoragarh/Champavath (Rs. 30.375 lakh ; 15 Projects) and Tehri Garhwal (Rs. 40.50 lakh ; 12 Projects).

Under the same programme, Uttar Pradesh gets Rs. 5.33,25,000 for palnning and development of 158 watershed projects in twelve districts of the state. The districts are: Allahabad (Rs. 16.875 lakh ;5 Projects), Baharaich (Rs. 135 lakh ;40 Projects), Shravasti (Rs. 54 lakh;16 Projects), Balrampur (Rs. 54 lakh;16 Projects), Banda (Rs. 81 lakh;24 Projects), Hamirpur (Rs. 20.25 lakh ;6 Projects), Jalaun (Rs. 20.25 lakh;6 Projects), Jhansi (Rs. 50.625 lakh ;15 Projects), Lakhimpur Kheri (Rs. 27 lakh ;8 Projects), Mahoba (Rs. 20.25 lakh ;6 Projects), Mirzapur (Rs. 13.50 lakh; 4 Projects) and Sitapur (Rs. 40.50 lakh ;12 Projects).

Besides, under the same programme Uttar Pradesh also gets Rs. 87.03 lakh for Banda district for watershed projects during 2002-03. The Ministry has released Rs. 202.50 lakh so far to the district.
