PM ANNOUNCES RS. 10 LAKHS SPECIAL CASH AWARD FOR WOMEN HOCKEY TEAM MEMBERS

Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee today announced a cash award of Rs. 10 lakhs to each member of the Indian women hockey team that has won gold medal in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games at Manchester, England and created history. The announcement was made here this evening, when the entire Indian contingent to Commonwealth Games visited the Prime Minister’s House for a reception hosted in their honour. The Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Ms Uma Bharati, Minister of State for sports and youth affairs, Shri P. Radhakrishnan, President of Indian Olympic Association, Shri Suresh Kalmadi and Presidents of various other sports federations were also present on the occasion. Earlier, Mr Kalmadi presented to Prime Minister a hat which symbolised Indian Contingent’s uniform at the Commonwealth Games.
