GOVERNMENT CONSIDERING TO SET UP ESIC SUPER-SPECIALITY MODEL HOSPITALS
IN EACH STATE

The government is considering to
set up super-speciality model hospitals in each state for workers
under the Employees State Insurance Scheme, ESIC. Stating this
in the Rajya Sabha during the Question Hour today, the Labour
Minister Dr. Sahib Singh said that the ESIC has got the funds
and "we want to initiate construction work for these hospitals
as soon as possible after getting the consent from the concerned
state governments". He said the ESIC is going to bear cent percent
expenditure on setting up model hospitals. Dr. Sahib Singh said
that the Corporation is considering the possibility of setting
up of Cardiac Centres at Bibvewadi in Pune through third party
participation and at ESI Hospital at Rohini in Delhi in collaboration
with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He said that
talks with the AIIMS in this regard are in progress. Dr. Sahib
Singh said that the corporation has also decided to set-up a separate
Cardialogy (Non-evasive) wing, Superspeciality Department at Asramam
(Kolam) in Kerala for which ESIC is finalising plans in consultation
with the Central Public Works Department.
Replying to a supplemetary the Labour
Minister said that the government is thinking to include workers
in the un-organised sector in the ESIC Scheme.
