ANTI - DUMPING DUTY ON POLYSTER STAPLE FIBRE

The European Union (EU) is presently maintaining anti-dumping duties in the range of 14.7% to 35.4% on imports of Polyester Staple Fibre from India. Bangladesh has recently imposed a regulatory duty of 10% on import of all types of cotton yarn. Turkey is also maintaining anti-dumping duty of 6.8% to 33.7% on import of Polyester Textured Filament Yarn from India. The textile imports from India are also facing other impediments such as duty free/quota free access granted by EU to textiles originating from our neighbouring competing countries; initiation of anti-subsidy/anti-dumping investigations by EU on Polyester Textured Filament Yarn; ban on yarn imports through land route by Bangladesh; and review of suspension of collection of duties on imports of bed-linen etc.

Overall exports to European Union and Bangladesh showed an upward trend during the financial years, i.e. 1999-2000 and 2000-01. During the current year, the exports have, however, declined. Government of India is taking all possible steps including taking the matter to Dispute Settlement Body of WTO as per international rules & regulations.
