INDIA SIGNED IMPLEMENTATION PLAN WITH CHINA FOR EXCHANGE OF HYDROLOGICAL
INFORMATION ON RIVER BRAHMAPUTRA
The Ministry of Water
Resources, Government of India has signed here today, an Implementation
Plan with the Directorate of Hydrology Bureau, Ministry of Water
Resources, China for provision of hydrological information of
the Yaluzangbu/Brahmaputra river during flood season by China
to India. The above Implementation Plan has been signed as a follow-up
of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by both the Governments
during the visit of Prime Minister of China to India in January,
2002.
According to the
Plan, China will provide hydrological information in respect of
three Chinese Hydrological Stations lying on the upstream of Yaluzangbu/Brahmaputra
river in Tibet during flood season to India. The information will
be useful for flood forecasting and warning purposes and will
benefit the States of the North-Eastern Region located on the
downstream of Brahmaputra river.
Commissioner
(Eastern Rivers) of the Ministry of Water Resources led the Indian
side at the delegation level talks and subsequent signing of the
Implementation Plan with the Chinese side which was led by Director
of Hydrology Bureau, Ministry of Water Resources, China. The Implementation
Plan was signed in the presence of the Secretary to the Government
of India, Ministry of Water Resources and Chairman, Central Water
Commission.
