The Government has
undertaken an exercise to amend the Arbitration and Conciliation
Act, 1996 to make the system of alternative disputes resolution
time-bound and more efficient. In this connection, the Government
has invited comments and views from all the State Governments
and other concerned organisations on the 176th Report
of the Law Commission of India suggesting amendments to the 1996
Act. The Government has also received recommendations from the
Indian Council of Arbitration, Rajasthan Chapter, for amendments
in the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996.
The Government has
initiated consultation with States and others as the subject matter
of arbitration falls under the Concurrent List of VII Schedule
of the Constitution of India.
The Government proposes
to process the matter after receiving comments from all concerned
to firm up a decision for further amendment of the Arbitration
and Conciliation Act, 1996.
