SUBMARINE BUILDING PROGRAMME FOR INDIAN NAVY
Rajya Sabha
Government has
approved a long term perspective plan for indigenous construction
of submarines and acquisition of national competence in submarine
building. The plan is to be implemented in two phases. The first
phase is scheduled for completion in 2012 and the second phase
in 2030. Requisite assistance in high technology areas from foreign
sources is envisaged to achieve the desired objective. A final
decision has, however, not been taken in this regard.
This information
was given by the Defence Minister Shri George Fernandes in a written
reply to Shrimati Vanga Geetha in Rajya Sabha today.
EXACTING
NORMS FOR DEFENCE PURCHASE
Government has not
received any representation from the Defence industry regarding
the defence purchase norms being rigid. There is no proposal under
consideration of the Government to relax the norms.
