RSP GETS RS.16.82 CRORE BY SELLING SLAG

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) of the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) has earned 16.82 crore from the sale of granulated slag in 2000-01 against Rs.6.6 crore in 1995-96. The production and despatch of slag has taken a quantum jump during these five years. For every tonne of hot metal produced in the Blast Furnaces of RSP, around 350-400 kg of slag is generated. The slag, which was earlier being dumped outside as solid waste is now converted into granulated form for the manufacture of Portland Slag Cement. RSP has a Slag Granulation Plant where the granulation from Blast Furnace-III is done. Another Cast House Slag Granulation Plant was commissioned at Blast Furnace-IV in 1993, as a part of the modernisation programme of RSP.
