SETTING UP OF FAMILY COURTS IN DELHI
Following the Supreme
Court order of February 11, 2002, in Writ Petition (Civil) No.
973 of 1991 in Chetna Legal Advisory Women and Children Welfare
Society Vs. Union of India and Others, directed the Government
that suitable land, as determined by the Chief Justice of Delhi
High Court, be allotted by the National Capital Territory of Delhi
and/or Union of India for setting up of the Family Courts within
one week, the Delhi Government has approached the High Court of
Delhi on February 15, 2002 for its approval of the offer of the
Delhi Development Authority (DDA) of four plots of land measuring
1500 sq. metres each at Vishwas Nagar Institutional Area, Vasant
Kunj, Janak Puri Institutional Area and Dheerpur for setting up
of Family Courts.
The Land and Building
office of the Delhi Government has also offered three plots of
land at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, Mehrauli and Badarpur Road
and Timarpur. The Delhi Government has approached the High Court
of Delhi on February 26, 2002 for its approval of the land at
these three sites. Besides, the decision regarding plots offered
by DDA and Land and Development Office (L&DO), has been taken
by the High Court of Delhi. The possession of the plots and sites
as approved by the High Court of Delhi is yet to be taken over.
Added to this, two Family Court buildings at Parliament Street
(Sansad Marg) and at 1. Kirpa Narayan Marg, Delhi are under construction.
Earlier,
the Centre in the Department of Justice of the Ministry of Law,
Justice and Company Affairs had sanctioned creation of 15 Family
Courts under the Family Courts Act, 1984 in the National Capital
Territory of Delhi during the year 2000.
