'22' QUICK ESTIMATES OF INDEX OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION AND USE-BASED INDEX (BASE 1993-94=100) FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY, 2002The Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with base 1993-94 for the month of February, 2002 have been released by the Central Statistical Organisation. The General Index stands at 170.3 which is higher by 2.3% as compared to the month of February, 2001. 2. The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors for the month of February, 2002 stand at 132.2, 177.8, and 151.0 respectively, with the corresponding growths of 2.4%, 2.3% and 2.6% as compared to February, 2001. The cumulative growths during April-February, 2001-02 over the corresponding period of 2000-01 in the three sectors have been 1.5%, 2.7% and 2.9% respectively, with the overall growth in the General Index being 2.6%. 3. Alongwith the Quick Estimates of IIP for February, 2002, the indices for January, 2002 have undergone the first revision and those for November, 2001 have undergone the second (final) revision based upon the updated data received from the source agencies. There are no significant revisions in the indices for November, 2001 and January, 2002. 4. Ten out of seventeen two-digit industry groups have shown positive growth during the month of February, 2002 as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. Beverages, Tobacco and Related Products have shown the highest growth of 14.5% followed by 13.0% in Other Manufacturing Industries and 12.4% in Paper & Paper Products and Printing, Publishing & Allied Industries. On the other hand, Leather and Leather & Fur Products have shown a growth of –13.4% followed by a growth of –12.6% in Wood and Wood Products; Furniture and Fixtures and –10.1% in Jute and Other Vegetable Fibre Textiles (except Cotton). 5. As per Use-based classification, the growth in February, 2002 as compared to February, 2001 is 3.8% in Basic goods, 1.6% in Capital goods and 0.1% in Intermediate goods. The Consumer durables and Consumer non-durables have recorded growth of 3.7% and 3.2% respectively, with the overall growth in Consumer goods being 3.3%.
