SHRI RAM NAIK HOLDS DISCUSSIONS WITH SMT. SHEILA DIXIT
Shri Ram Naik, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, held a meeting with Smt. Sheila Dixit, Chief Minister of NCT Delhi, here today to discuss the issues arising out of Supreme Courts Order dated 5th April, 2002 on CNG. It was decided that two committees be formed to address the issues of allotment/acquisition of land and giving requisite approval for development of CNG infrastructure and to look after the day-to-day operational matters pertaining to the supply of CNG in Delhi.
The Committee on land allotment/acquisition etc., would be set up under the Chairmanship of the Lt. Governor of Delhi. It will have members from the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), Government of NCT of Delhi or any other related Ministries/Departments. This is expected to accelerate the process of building necessary infrastructure for supply of CNG in Delhi.
The Operational Committee would be chaired by the Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas and will have members from IGL, Government of NCT of Delhi or any other related Ministries/Departments. The Committee would look after the day-to-day matters requiring Governments intervention for weeding out impediments in the supply of CNG in Delhi.
Petroleum Minister informed the Chief Minister that IGL is preparing a development plan for augmenting CNG dispensing infrastructure in the light of recent Supreme Court order.
Speaking to the Media, Shri Ram Naik said that he would initiate discussions on issues pertaining to multi-fuel policy and also about directions of the Supreme Court to accord priority for transport fuels over gas requirements for power generation, fertilizer production, etc.
