WORLD ENTERPRISE SAILING CHAMPIONSHIP 2002

    The Sandpiper World Enterprise Sailing Championship 2002 is currently in progress at Goa. The event, which started on 01 Apr 2002, will conclude on 13 Apr 2002. A total of 40 boats from nine countries are participating, each being sailed by a team of two participants, UK, Ireland, Myanmar, Germany, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Maldives and hosts India are vying for the prizes.

    The former World champions in this class of boats, Richard Estaugh and Peter Rawley from UK are participating and dominated the first day's races, coming first and third in the two races conducted India showed their strong presence in the second race. Ashim Mongia and R Mahesh grabbed the first prize, Farukh Tarapore and Pushpendra Gard came fifth, Nitin
Mongia and Sandeep Jain sixth, Gautam Dutta and Utpal Moria seventh and the Yadav pair coming eighth.

    The coach of the Indian team, Cdr Homi Motivala, who is an Arjuna awardee, said that while he was not ecstatic, he thought that it was a 'satisfactory' day for India. Chairman and Managing Director of Goa Shipyard, Admiral Sampath Pillai (Retd) gave away the prizes for the first day's races.
