UMA BHARTI TO INAUGURATE A TWO-DAY NATIONAL MEETING ON IMPLEMENTATION OF NATIONAL RECONSTRUCTION CORPS SCHEME

DMs/DCs OF IMPLEMENTING DISTRICTS AND OFFICIALS OF CONCERNED MINISTRIES TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DELIBERATIONS

Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Sushree Uma Bharti will inaugurate a national level meeting of DMs/DCs and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) officials on the implementation of the National Reconstruction Corps (NRC) Scheme, here tomorrow. This 2-day meeting will review the performance of the NRC which is being implemented in 80 districts of the country on a pilot basis. This scheme was operationalised during 2001-02. Under the scheme, a project officer and 100 volunteers in each of the selected districts have been recruited on contract basis to be engaged in the implementation of eight centrally sponsored schemes of the Government of India.

According to an internal evaluation carried out by the Ministry, there is a need for further streamlining of the implementation process. This meeting will involve interaction of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports as the nodal ministry and senior officials of the concerned ministries of Government of India whose schemes have been selected for implementation under the NRC. It is expected that an effective interaction of DMs and DCs of the concerned districts will take place with the other implementing agencies and help in further streamlining of the scheme.

The schemes identified for implementation under the NRC are – Swaranjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY); Watershed Development; Swaran Jayanti Shehri Rojgar Yojana (SJSRY); Health – Enhanced Malaria Control Programme; Afforestation/Conservation of Environment; Non-Conventional Energy Sources and Tribal Development/Housing.
