SPECIAL ADDITIONAL FOODGRAINS ALLOCATION TO GUJARAT

Gujarat has been given a special additional allocation of 700 tonnes of rice and 3100 tonnes of wheat by the Central Government. This additional allocation will be utilised for distribution in the relief camps set up for the families affected by recent riots in Gujarat for the months of April and May, 2002. The expenditure incurred on food grains allocation in the relief camps will be borne by the Government of India. The subsidy involved in this case is estimated at Rs.305 crore.

It has also been decided that in the riot affected areas of Gujarat BPL (Below Poverty Line) families will be given 35 kg of food grains free of cost for the next two months.
